Earthquakes and cyclones hit the Philippines time and again. However, the Filipinos never seem to lose their cheerful nature.
On November 17, 2023, an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 struck the southernmost island of Mindanao, followed by two more quakes with a magnitude of 7.4 and 6.8 respectively, just two weeks later. About 20 years ago, my father and I visited a church in General Santo City. This church has always been involved in disaster relief efforts.
This time, volunteers put together 255 packages that were distributed to families who had been affected. They also provided wood, reinforced concrete, cement, nails, and corrugated iron for rebuilding. Helimission provided financial support.
