Typhoon «Tino» Hits The Philippines

On November 3, Typhoon Tino raged across the Philippines. No sooner had people recovered from the severe earthquake in October than they found themselves facing yet another catastrophic natural disaster.

About a month after the devastating typhoon, many regions of the Philippines are still facing major challenges. In early November, the storm brought wind gusts of over 180 km/h, devastating parts of the Visayas, including Eastern Samar, Leyte, and Cebu. Numerous homes were destroyed, electricity and water systems were damaged, and entire communities were flooded.

At least 114 people lost their lives, and over 127 are still missing. Around 2 million people were affected, and hundreds of thousands had to be temporarily housed in evacuation centers.

Agriculture was also severely hit: crops worth more than 555 million Philippine Pesos were destroyed. The government declared a state of national emergency. Despite progress in repairs, many families still live in temporary shelters. In some regions, damaged infrastructure and flooded lands continue to hinder a return to normality. Full recovery is expected to take several months.
