Attacked By Bandits

Sunday morning at 6:30 I received a call to conduct a medical evacuation in the tropical rainforest. Oddly, we receive many more requests for emergency flights like this on weekends rather than during the week.
One of our pilots, Ross, was available that day to carry out the evacuation. After preparing everything, he was ready to take off early in the afternoon. The weather was not very favorable. He nevertheless tried to reach the village. After 40 minutes of flying, he was forced to turn around and return to Tana. The weather was particularly challenging.
The next day, even though the weather was not better, I was able to reach the village by diverting to the north. The injured person, a 55-year-old man, had been attacked by bandits who had stabbed him in the face and body with a machete in order to steal some valuables. A doctor who works for the MHM hospital (Mobile Help Madagascar e.V.), accompanied us to provide first aid to the wounded man. After just over an hour's flight, and in very unpredictable weather, we were able to fly the patient from the village back to Tana and drive him directly to the MHM hospital. The injured man was given care and attention and properly treated. Without the intervention of Helimission, this man might have succumbed to his injuries.
Thank you for your valuable support!
With kind regards,
Jean-Christophe
