Airstrip Project In Kola-Kolamon

Small planes are cheaper to operate than helicopters. Per passenger, a plane is three times cheaper. That is why we use helicopters for our missions and do everything we can to replace them with airstrips.

We had the opportunity to support an organisation with an airstrip project in Kola-Kolamon. We were asked to sling load a small excavator to the airstrip construction project. The machine was too heavy to be brought in one load. The machine had to be disassembled and then trucked 14 hours to a nearby airstrip. From there we flew the parts, re-assembly equipment, tools, fuel and a team of workers into Kola Kolamon. Once reassembled, the small excavator began working on the airstrip removing boulders and digging drainage ditches. Just three weeks later, the airstrip was completed and ceremoniously opened with the first landing of a Kodiak airplane.
