Pioneering work in the heart of Brazil – Lábrea, Amazonas
With the establishment of its new base in Brazil, Helimission is taking an important step toward reaching people in need in the most remote and inaccessible areas of the Amazon. The overarching goal is to provide social, medical, and spiritual assistance in these regions.
This far-reaching work is pioneering work that aims to ensure that our interdenominational aid reaches unreached peoples.
Location and infrastructure in Lábre
The Lábrea base is located on a spacious plot of land. It is 1.5 km from the outskirts of the city and only 700 m from the small public airport. The property is located at an altitude of 80 m above sea level.
Current situation and progress
Construction work is progressing steadily:
Security and living
The entire property was completely fenced in during spring 2025. A sturdy metal sliding gate is currently being installed, which will also be electrically operated in the future. The guard house has been completed and the property guard and his wife are expected to move in this year. The building is functionally furnished with a small kitchen, a bedroom, a room with a shower, washing machine, and toilet, as well as a storage room for materials.
Supply and environment
The base already has important infrastructure in place: electricity and fresh water (pumped from the ground via wells) are available. The water tank is located in the attic of the guard house. A biological sewage system with a natural filter has been installed for the guard house, which is considered highly environmentally friendly and does not require any costly maintenance work. The pipe connections for the other planned buildings (such as a hangar or residential buildings) have already been prepared. In addition, the access road to the planned hangar and landing pad has been constructed.
What happens next? – Next steps and challenges
The primary goal is to start construction of the hangar and landing pad in spring 2026 so that a helicopter can be operational on site as soon as possible.
