Shortly before Christmas, our children and their teacher prepared a small performance for the children at the garbage dump. They rehearsed for weeks to bring these poor children some Christmas joy.
It was a very special experience, and our children could see, smell and witness directly how these children at the garbage dump live. The performance took place in a small church right next to the dump in the middle of a rice field. It was oppressively hot, smelly, loud and chaotic, but despite this it was a valuable experience.
The people living there rummage through the garbage every day looking for something useful they can either sell or use themselves. It is hard to see this closeup, but it reminds us to be grateful for everything we have.
