I am always impressed by how content the Philippinos are, even though annual hurricanes, earthquakes and floods threaten their lives. It must have something to do with the fact that there are many God-fearing and devout people there.
In October, November and December 2019, a series of earth tremors shook the southern tip of the Philippines, Mindanao. In total, all the earthquakes combined damaged 21,000 buildings and completely destroyed 25,000. The high number of buildings which were destroyed is particularly conspicuous. Buildings which had already been damaged by the tremors could no longer stand further quakes. Around 110,000 people sought shelter in emergency shelters.
Over two decades ago, I visited this area with my father. Over the years I have kept in touch with a leader in General Santo City. We provided financially for 200 emergency rations for families affected by the earthquakes.
