The island of Papua New Guinea, situated north of Australia, is considered one of the world’s most difficult places to fly. The western part of the island belongs to Indonesia and is known as Papua (formerly Irian Jaya).
With the landscape ranging from high mountains to tropical marshlands and fast forming clouds, flying here is very challenging. The difficult, mountainous and largely jungle covered area is also challenging for the pilot to navigate.
